Gaur
Do you know that many people refer to Indian Gaur as the bison. This is a misnomer. Bisons are commonly found in
America and are smaller than indian Gaur's.
The gaur (Bos gaurus), also called Indian bison, is the largest extant bovine, native to Indian subcontinent and
southeast Asia. It hs been listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red list, since 986.
Gaur is the largest representative of the wild carte, Males weight between 600 and 1000 Kgs. They can reach 8 to
11 feet in length and from 5 to 7 feet at the height at shoulder. Females reach only 1/4 of the males size.
The grurs have a distinctive white part continuing below their knees, which looks like socks worn by them.
